‘The Mulliner Book and the birth of English organ music’
Saturday, 22 November 2008
St Paul’s Cathedral, Ludgate Hill, London EC4
This year’s London Organ Forum will be held on 22 November 2008 at St Paul’s Cathedral. Thomas Mulliner was quite possibly Master of the Choristers at St Paul’s in the 1550’s, so it seems only fitting to use his compilation of keyboard works as the focus for the event.
The 16th century was a time of great religious unrest in England. With the Reformation, musical styles and forms changed dramatically. We will be examining 16th century liturgical music and practice, with the help of the two Early English Organ Project organs which are being housed in St Paul’s next autumn. Patrick Russill, Jane Flynn and Andrew Carwood – all renowned experts in the field of 16th century music – will be our guest speakers, and as always the day will feature a mix of thought-provoking lectures, discussion and live performance.
